Meinig Park Improvement Plan
Meinig Park Improvement Plan Update (April 21, 2026)
The City has determined that improvements to Meinig Park will be completed in phases to ensure a thoughtful and efficient approach.
Phase 1 will focus on enhancing pathway and trail accessibility, hillside seating, and parking lot improvements. Planned upgrades include repaving all park pathways, with select routes brought into compliance with ADA and Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) standards. Other pathways will be improved while balancing accessibility goals with preservation of existing trees and minimizing the need for extensive handrail installations throughout the park.
As part of this phase, Shelters 2 and 3 (located behind City Hall) will be replaced with similar new structures. Shelter 1 will be removed; and the concrete pad will be replaced maintaining a picnic area. This change will allow for the construction of a new, larger shelter above the current Shelter 1 location, designed to be fully ADA accessible and improve the visitor experience for concerts and similar events.
Additional improvements include repaving and re-striping the parking lot behind Joe’s, as well as the installation of a new ADA-accessible restroom near the lower parking lot, just below Fantasy Forest.
The City anticipates releasing this project for bid in mid-April and expects to have a contractor on board to begin construction on July 14, 2026. In order to safely and efficiently implement these improvements it will be necessary to close all of Meinig Park to include Fantasy Forest for the duration of construction. The park is scheduled to reopen in time for Winterfest activities, beginning November 20, 2026.
Phase 2 is planned to include restoration of No Name Creek and a redesign of the Fantasy Forest playground. A timeline for Phase 2 has not yet been established.
