Street Sweeping

Streets in Sandy are swept monthly. Please help keep your street clean by moving your car off the street when the sweeper comes through. See the map below for details.

Please Do Not Blow Leaves into the Street

When leaves are blown or placed into the street, they don’t just “go away.” Instead, they clog storm drains and catch basins, which can cause localized flooding during rainstorms. This creates safety hazards for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians, and increases cleanup costs for the City.

Placing or blowing leaves, branches, or other yard debris into the public right-of-way practice harms our stormwater system, makes our roads slippery and can lead to injuries.

Instead, residents should use the proper disposal options already available:

Weekly Yard Debris Pickup – Yard debris service is included with your regular garbage service. Simply place leaves and branches in your green cart for collection.

Composting at Home – Leaves make excellent compost and can be turned into nutrient-rich soil for your garden. Composting reduces waste and returns natural material to your yard.

Mulching – Mow leaves directly into your lawn to add nutrients back into the soil and reduce the need for fertilizer.

By keeping leaves out of the street, you’re helping prevent flooding, protecting water quality, and supporting a cleaner, safer community for everyone.
