We are pleased to announce that the Oregon Legislature has granted $5 million to the City of Sandy to support the upgrades we are making to our wastewater system - critical funding assistance that will help keep wastewater rates more affordable for Sandy residents.

“This $5 million award directly reduces the amount Sandy needs to borrow,” said City Manager Tyler Deems. “That means less pressure on ratepayers and a more affordable future for our community.”

The grant funds will be used for design and engineering of the ultimate solution to Sandy’s wastewater challenges: construction of a new pipeline connecting Sandy to the City of Gresham’s wastewater treatment facility.  Sandy’s emerging partnership with Gresham will leverage regional economies of scale and remove our system capacity limitations, allowing Sandy to discontinue the moratorium on development once pipeline construction is complete.

Sandy’s wastewater improvements are substantial and expensive, the result of a Federal consent decree that requires significant system expansion. This $5 million investment from the State helps support Sandy’s path toward a more secure and prosperous future. Once the pipeline to Gresham is complete, Sandy will be able to sustainably support future growth, welcome future residents, and attract new businesses to strengthen the local economy and create new jobs in our community.
