Chipper
Sandy Chipping Service – Quarterly Neighborhood Program
Program Overview:
The Sandy Chipping Service is a Community Service initiative designed to help residents dispose of yard
debris such as branches, limbs, and brush in an eco-friendly and convenient way. Each quarter, the City
brings the chipper to four designated neighborhood parks, allowing residents to drop off tree and shrub
trimmings for on-site chipping. The resulting mulch is offered back to the public for gardening and
landscaping use.
Objectives:
- Provide residents with a convenient and sustainable way to dispose of yard waste
- Reduce illegal dumping and green waste in landfills
- Promote reuse of natural materials through community mulch distribution
- Foster neighborhood engagement and beautification
How It Works:
- Quarterly Events: Chipping events occur once per quarter (February, May, August, November)
- Locations: The chipper and Sandy staff are stationed at neighborhood parks on designated Fridays
- Hours of Operation: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Drop-off Guidelines:
- Acceptable materials: tree branches, brush, and limbs up to 6 inches in diameter
- No stumps, dimensional lumber, root balls, ivy, blackberries, or non-organic waste
- Residents must bring proof of city residency (ID or utility bill)
- Sandy staff have final authority to reject any materials they deem unfit for chipping
Mulch Availability:
Residents can request chipped mulch on a first-come, first-served basis. For large quantities, Sandy staff
will coordinate delivery with residents. For small quantities, residents are welcome to bring their own
wheelbarrows, buckets, or bags.
Promotion and Outreach:
- Informational barricades posted in neighborhoods and community parks
- Social media and city newsletter announcements
