2026 Wastewater Facility Plan Amendment

Our community has outgrown our decades-old wastewater system, and we have been mandated by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to improve our infrastructure.

Due to the extreme costs of initial studied approaches, the City of Sandy is implementing a new wastewater strategy.  For the times when our existing discharge options aren't enough, we're building infrastructure to treat water to extremely high standards through either reverse osmosis or granular activated carbon, and then discharge the highly-treated effluent underground to recharge the groundwater in our area (as is done in communities throughout the western United States). This approach aligns with the State of Oregon’s goals to advance water reuse (see HB 2169).
