Water & Wastewater Projects

Winter Reading Challenge

Ready, set, READ! We encourage readers of all ages to challenge themselves to become reading machines this winter. Sandy and Hoodland Libraries are participating in “Be a Reading Machine,” a reading challenge sponsored by Beanstack and Baker & Taylor.

We challenge our community to read and log at least 5 hours during the challenge. For logging your minutes read, you will earn fun, new badges. The top-performing libraries and schools will even win special prizes.

ERUs for Vacant Commercial & Industrial Buildings

The table in the PDF below shows vacant commercial and industrial buildings in Sandy along with their associated ERUs.  The ERUs are calculated based on the previous use of the property before it became vacant, and they indicate the size of wastewater system demand that can be accommodated at that site for a future business, under the terms of the City's consent decree with EPA and DEQ.

Trees in Environmentally Sensitive Areas

Tree removal within environmentally sensitive areas require a tree removal permit through the Flood and Slope Hazard (FSH) Overlay regulations as outlined in Chapter 17.60 of the Sandy Development Code. The City of Sandy must limit tree removal in such areas as to minimize public and private adverse impacts from flooding, erosion, landslides, and degradation of water quality.

Storm Damaged Trees

If a tree is damaged during a storm or extreme weather event, the City advises that property owners take caution around impacted trees. It is always best to contact an ISA Certified Arborist to determine if the tree is a hazard and to determine what should be done. If the tree is still standing, but damaged, then a tree permit is required prior to removal if the tree would typically require a tree removal permit.
