Job Title: Lifeguard

Salary range: $12.00 - $14.75 per hour

Job Description:

Under close supervision, the Lifeguard assumes the responsibility to perform lifeguarding duties for various aquatic programs. Duties include preventing accidents, responding to any level of incident around the entire facility, effectively enforcing pool rules and regulations, checking and maintaining pool chemicals, while providing a high level of customer service. Ensures that all standards and policies are followed. Ensures State and local health department regulations are met. Communicate effectively with staff and patrons, and complete other related duties, as assigned.


  • Maintain a safe and secure area by enforcing facility rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Eliminate or minimize hazards and to ensure facility cleanliness.
  • Tests pool chemicals, maintain water chemistry, prepare and complete written reports.
  • Operate aquatic equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Interacts with customers as needed to provide excellent customer service.
  • Renders immediate first aid in case of injury and responds to emergency situations as required.
  • Administers swim tests.
  • Perform maintenance duties, completes hourly/ bi-hourly pool maintenance checklists.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relations with coworkers, citizens, and the general public.
  • Remains current with required certifications.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proper use of chemicals according to state and federal regulations
  • Awareness of safety concerns and risk management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more years lifeguarding experience.
  • Experience and passion working for a service oriented environment.

Special Requirements/Licenses:

  • Must possess Lifeguard Training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the professional rescuer (CPR)/AED/First Aid certifications.
  • Must be able to pass the department’s security clearance standards, including Reference check and Criminal History check.
