POSITION TITLE:             Seasonal Worker – Streets 

WORK HOURS:                Full Time - Mon-Friday - some flexibility w/scheduling

DEPARTMENT:                 Public Works

FLSA STATUS:                   Non-Exempt

SALARY GRADE:              A

SALARY RANGE:             $19.31 an hour - 3.7% COLA added on 7/1/2024 

REPRESENTATION:        None

  This position is up to a four month assignment and is open until filled 

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Seasonal Worker provides assistance to the Public Works Department. This position is required to perform a variety tasks associated with weed control and maintenance of rights-of-way. This position may also be called upon to assist in park maintenance and/or operation and maintenance of water, sewer and street systems and utility installations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Mowing, weeding and general maintenance of City property and public rights-of-way. Establishes and maintains positive working relations with coworkers, citizens, the public, and other agency staff. Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Knowledge of operation and care of various power and hand tools
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to lift 70 pounds
  • Ability to operate hand-held power equipment over uneven terrain in all weather condition
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.

Special Requirements/Licenses:

Possession of a valid driver’s license and must have a clean driving record.

Supervision Received:

Works under the direction of the Public Works Crew Leader.

 This position requires the ability to function both indoors and outdoors engaging in work of a moderately active nature.

 Requires the ability to maintain cardio-pulmonary fitness to engage in moderate physical activity.
 Requires the ability to move to different working locations and to bend, stoop, climb, and reach to perform essential job functions.
 Requires arm, hand, and finger dexterity to demonstrate use or operate common tools used in public works maintenance.
 Requires the ability to lift from floor, waist or overhead, objects up to 70 pounds.
 Requires the ability to function with temperature and weather variations.
 Requires visual acuity to observe work sites and read written materials.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Weed eater, backpack blower and various hand tools associated with grass and weed control.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
The employee may be occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and temperature variations.
The noise level in the field environment is usually moderate, except when operating hand-held power equipment.
