SandyNet Voice Service Disruption Due To Upstream Providers

4:30 PM - 9/29/21

Bandwidth.com has now classified the recent attack wave as a major outage, affecting inbound/outbound calls and even emergency 911 services. This outage is towards the tail end of the work day, but we haven't seen a plan or resolution at this time. Will continue to monitor and update once we have a change to the status.

10:58 AM - 9/29/21

We are staying up to date with information coming out from bandwidth.com. The company is purposely being vague in their statuses, because those responsible for the attack are watching these updates closely. While the issue is still ongoing, the effect it is having on operations and service continues to decrease, meaning that the mitigation is working, but not fully resolving all issues. You can continue to view their status page here

A good write up on the issue can be found from bleepingcomputer.

7:07 AM - 9/28/21

The SandyNet team is currently monitoring a nationwide phone disruption that is partially affecting voice service with customers and many major cell and voice carriers.  City phones are experiencing disruptions as well.

4:00 PM - 9/27/21
SandyNet is continuing to monitor it's phone lines, and it looks like service has been restored for the time being. From what we know from the provider(s) that were affected, it was a Distributed Denial of Service Attack, (DDoS), which essentially floods all available connections and denies service. It looks like service to the affected provider has been restored, but it's hard to say if it won't come under attack again. If your SandyNet phone is not operating, please email us at support@sandynet.org and we will investigate it.  Also, all city phones and functions have been restored.

The SandyNet team is currently monitoring a nationwide phone disruption that is partially affecting voice service with customers and many major cell and voice carriers.

We will keep you informed as the situation progresses, but please be aware this disruption is affecting large providers and hundreds of other companies across the nation, in addition to SandyNet.

Thank you for your patience while this situation is resolved.
