Job Title: Head Lifeguard

Salary range: $13.00 - $15.75 per hour

Job Description:

The Head Lifeguard is responsible for conducting the daily operations of the aquatic center and overseeing all activities to secure the safety of those who are in and around the pool area, ensuring good customer service, facility maintenance and performs professional duties in ensuring effective performance of lifeguard functions. Ensures that all standards and policies are followed. Ensures State and local health department regulations are met. Communicates effectively with staff and patrons, and complete other related duties, as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Facilitates the opening and secure closing procedures for aquatic center for all programs, events, and rentals.
  • Perform regular safety checks on facility and coordinate with Aquatic Operations Coordinator and Lifeguards to provide appropriate information and services to all. Organize and participate in all aquatic staff meetings an in-service training.
  • Provide training to staff and oversight of aquatic staff and resolve all issues and recommend appropriate strategies to achieve all objectives and ensure training and certificates for all lifeguards.
  • Assist lifeguards to provide appropriate first aid to all guests and ensure compliance to all compliance to all safety regulations.
  • Manage all swimming events and maintain knowledge on all aquatic programs to ensure smooth functioning.
  • Maintain and update all records of all pool operations and aquatic programs and promote all programs in coordination with community services department.
  • Perform maintenance duties, completes hourly/ bi-hourly pool maintenance checklists. Oversee and ensure cleanliness of facility all times according to safety procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and secure area by enforcing facility rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Tests pool chemicals, maintain water chemistry, prepare and complete written reports.
  • Operate aquatic equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Interacts with customers as needed to provide excellent customer service.
  • Renders immediate first aid in case of injury and responds to emergency situations as required.
  • Administers swim tests.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relations with coworkers, citizens, and the general public.
  • Remains current with required certifications.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Two or more years lifeguarding experience.
  • Provides superior quality customer service to ensure each customer is treated with dignity, respect and patience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact in public contact and handling problems.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and to make decisions with minimal supervision by prioritizing and organizing tasks.
  • Ability to resolve conflict among participants and customers.
  • Ability to follow and give clear and concise directions.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and customer needs.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform set-up and break-down of programs and events.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proper use of chemicals according to state and federal regulations
  • Awareness of safety concerns and risk management.
  • Must demonstrate dependability and reliability with respect to scheduled assignments.
  • Ability to learn and use recreation software program and basic computer operation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience
  • Experience and passion working for a service oriented environment.

Special Requirements/Licenses:

  • Must possess Lifeguard Training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the professional rescuer (CPR)/AED/First Aid certifications.
  • Must be able to pass the department’s security clearance standards, including Reference check and Criminal History check.
