The City of Sandy’s local choice for internet service!

SandyNet is a utility of the City of Sandy, owned by the citizens of Sandy with the purpose of providing our community with an ultra-fast, and incredibly reliable internet service. We believe this is critical for today’s digital age.

Our History

The network was started in 2002 using DSL technology to deliver service to customers, and then transitioned to a fixed wireless service for many years. In 2014, the City of Sandy began construction on what is now a state-of-the-art fiber to the premises network. There is nothing as reliable or as fast as fiber optics, and that is what we deliver all the way into our customers homes.

In addition to providing an outstanding network in Sandy's neighborhoods and business community, the SandyNet team has also worked to make the core of our network incredibly reliable. All of our primary systems are right here in Sandy, which allows us to respond quickly to problems, and our infrastructure has been designed with robust redundancy and fail-safe measures compared to our competitors. We even have redundant fiber paths out of Sandy to provide us with a secure and dependable connection to the rest of the world.

Local

SandyNet is an official department of the City of Sandy with a primary focus on providing the best possible local internet service to our residents, period. Because we are funded primarily by local city taxes, we only offer our services within city limits (with a few exceptions) and this keeps our focus fixed on Sandy and keeps us in tune with the needs and desires of our local community.

We also take pride in our work because our employees live in town and use our service themselves. Performance and reliability matter to us!  Our families and friends rely upon the service every day to work from home, remote into school, stream videos and services, etc.  We know that our customers use it for those things as well, and it is just as important to them as it is to us.

Accountable

Because we are local, SandyNet's staff are held to a higher level of accountability than your typical internet service provider. We recognize that every time our staff goes to the grocery store, out to a restaurant or to a concert in Meinig Park, we are representing SandyNet and the City of Sandy. We take the responsibility to provide outstanding service very seriously because we are all in this community together!

As an official department of the City of Sandy, our customers have the benefit of direct access to SandyNet’s board of directors -- the Sandy City Council. We love the fact that our customers have an opportunity twice a month to speak to the very top level of our organization. If we haven’t given you the best we possibly can, we expect to hear about it -- try doing that with your typical internet service provider!

Reliable

In today’s world, having a connection you can rely on is important. We have seen the internet evolve over the past few decades into an essential 21st century utility. Life and business are conducted online, which means it needs to work when you need it. SandyNet has evolved along with the changing requirements of our customers and will continue to listen and be responsive to their needs.

The Future

As seen during 2020, world-wide pandemics, wildfires, and extreme weather can disrupt our normal patterns of life. The quick shift to online work and education caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other recent events brought on new challenges for providers of internet service, as network reliability and access to support became more important than ever. SandyNet has strong disaster management and continuity plans governing how we respond to events and disasters in order to prevent or minimize damage to service and our network and keep the service available to our customers, and our team is updating this plan constantly.  So when the next pandemic or weather event comes, SandyNet will be ready.
