Snow and Ice

Plow

In advance of winter weather, the Public Works Department stages equipment on first priority roads throughout the city. These roads are designated to enable the accessibility of emergency vehicles, school buses, and residents to all major areas of the city.

Plowing begins when 2-3 inches of snow falls on the ground.  Once first priority roads are cleared, crews will move onto second and third priority roads.  In a severe storm, only first priority roads will be maintained.  When the storm subsides crews will work towards clearing second and third priority roads.

While the department works hard to maintain streets to provide a safe commute during winter weather conditions, snow tires or chains will still likely be needed to navigate safely.

If you have an hazard to report (such as a downed tree in the roadway or a downed power line), call Police Non-Emergency Dispatch at (503) 655-8211.
